Val Skinner

Skinner is a veteran and six-time winner on the LPGA Tour.  Skinner ranked in the top 15 in the world 7 of 20 seasons during her LPGA career. She was a member of the victorious U.S. Solheim Cup team in 1996 is a member of three golf halls of fame. Prior to joining the LPGA Tour Skinner was selected as Golf Magazine’s 1982 Collegiate Player of the year.

Off the course, she has made it her mission to educate young women about breast cancer and the importance of good breast health practices. She founded the Val Skinner Foundation in 2000 and LPGA Pros in the Fight (LIFE) in memory of her fellow LPGA touring professional and close friend, Heather Farr, who died of breast cancer in 1993 at the age of 28.

Skinner was selected as one of USA Weekend magazine’s 1997 Most Caring Athletes in recognition of her humanitarian efforts and was honored in 2003 as one of Yoplait and Self Magazine’s champions for her extraordinary work in the fight against breast cancer. In 2005 she received the Golf Writer’s Association of America’s Charlie Bartlett Award and was listed in the top 10 charitable foundations organized and funded by pro athletes in the July 2005 issue of Sports Illustrated. On June 18 Skinner will receive the 2007 Metropolitan Golf Writers Association Winnie Palmer Award which acknowledges an individual in golf who has given consistently of his or her time, energy and enthusiasm to helping others.

In addition to her roles as LPGA veteran and philanthropist, Skinner also serves as golf commentator for the Golf Channel and CBS.
